PHYSICAL EDUCATION DEPARTMENT

The physical education experience at the secondary level is designed to teach students how to manage their own health and wellness by engaging in enjoyable activities that promote fitness. In addition to participating in regular exercise, students receive comprehensive lessons that incorporate fitness fundamentals based scientific training principles. The principles introduced in class are reinforced by relevant written reports assigned each term.Term papers account for 30% of the quarter grade.Grading policies will be discussed in detail during the first week of school.Departmental policies and grading procedures will be distributed to all students during orientation.Parents are encouraged to review these polices and all expectations outlined in the student handbook.

Required courses include yearly projects with authentic applications for personal improvement.Freshmen create fitness portfolios, with journals designed to monitor fitness habits and patterns throughout the year.Sophomores also use fitness journals as part of a course project designed to construct and implement personalized fitness plans.

All physical education students participate in weekly fitness labs conducted in the Wellness Center. The room is equipped with cardiovascular machines, free weights, and selectorized exercise components for each major muscle group.Located in the heart of the atrium and athletic complex, the facility is utilized daily for physical education classes and staffed after school for team training and personal workouts.

Facility training is required for all staff and students using the Wellness Center.Training sessions for all physical education classes will take place during the first two weeks of school.Staff training is scheduled for August 25th.

The Wellness Center is reserved for physical education classes during the day and is available to all staff and students Monday through Thursday after school from 2:15 p.m. - to 4:15 p.m.All after school participants must complete a permission form.Specific rules and regulations are posted in the Wellness Center.Supervisors have authority over all training room behavior and use of equipment.Failure to abide by the rules may result in loss of privileges.

We are extremely grateful to all of the citizens of Easton for supporting our efforts to incorporate a fitness room as part of the renovation project. On behalf of all the constituents using this facility we especially thank Mr. Gary Klencheski of Fitcorp, for his contributions with the initial layout and design and David and Karen Howe for their generous equipment donation.

ART DEPARTMENT

There will be four Art I classes, two Art II classes for students continuing in the program, and a combined Art III and Art IV class for our dedicated advanced students. All of the art students will have the chance to display their best work in several prominent spots in the building throughout the year. Ms. Kristyn Shea will be continuing her excellent teaching, and we will be welcoming experienced teacher Mrs. Kathleen Hayes to the program. The Art Club continues to paint extraordinary murals around the school, and will host the annual spring art show once again.
