MUSIC DEPARTMENT
The Oliver Ames High School Music Department is gearing up for another exciting year. Over the summer students and teachers participated in summer workshops, courses and programs to enhance their musical knowledge and skill. Fifteen students from the Show Choir attended the Show Choir Camps of America Camp in Tiffin Ohio, at Heidelburg College, accompanied by Mrs. Stephanie Manning. Students attended workshops, classes and concerts in vocal music and dance. Aimee Fried-Hardy, Emma Irvine, Nicky Maggio, and Michael Roney were chosen to perform in the SCA Talent Show. Katie Richardson and Samantha Cormier were chosen to be in the Dance Ensemble. OA also held its first Rising Star Show Choir Camp from July 20-24. Thirty-six students from Easton and several other communities attended the successful camp that ended with a fabulous performance on the 24th.
Mrs. Dalrymple took a weeklong course in "Smart Music" to continue her certification in Music Technology. This practice program will be available to students in September in each of the four practice rooms. She was also the Music Director for the Star Players production of "West Side Story" which ran from August 14-23. Easton students Jeanine Ilacqua (Maria), Sarah Kawalek (Velma), Josh Wise (Jet) and OA alumni Brian Fernandes (Action), Jennifer Lance (Jet Girl), Gabe Colon-Sciabarrasi (Chino), Josh Babineau (Shark) and Lauren Maggio (Rosalia) were in the cast.
Mr. Wheeler attended the New England Band Institute in New Hampshire and continues to work on his Master's Degree in Music Technology. Ms. Winters directed the University of Rhode Island Summer String Camp and played in a variety of venues over the summer.
