Congratulations Joanne Coffman who assumed the leadership position as English Department Head at the end of June. I am thrilled to have Joanne join the outstanding core of Department Heads here at OAHS and look forward to her leadership and her implementation of her vision for the English Department.
New faculty to OAHS are as follows:
Casey Brennan - Joins our Social Studies Department replacing one of the two openings created by Christopher Kerr's resignation and Bruce Field's retirement in late June. Casey has taught history for five years serving at Franklin High School, The Build San Francisco Institute in San Francisco, and at Seekonk High School. Casey comes with outstanding credentials, experiences, and recommendations. Casey is a graduate of the University of Rhode Island and Simmons College and has certification in both History and English. We are ecstatic to have Casey joining our community.
Shannon Cooper - Has been hired as our second School Psychologist joining forces with Barbara Bigelow. Shannon is a graduate of the University of New Hampshire and Seton Hall University. Shannon has had her practicum experience and is beginning her first year as a school psychologist. We are thrilled to have Shannon join our community and I am sure that she will receive a great introduction to public education with all of your support in her first year.
Angela DePalma - Joins our Social Studies Department beginning her teaching career. Angela received her undergraduate degree from the University of Massachusetts and recently graduated from the same graduate program that Casey Brennan completed at Simmons College. Angela comes with great recommendations and we are delighted to have Angela join our community.
Kaitlyn Myers - Joins our English Department filling the void created by the retirement of Joan Nicholaides and the subsequent movement of Joanne Coffman to the position of English Department Head. Kaitlyn is really no stranger to our community having completed her successful student teaching practicum with us last year. She spent the second half of last year filling a maternity vacancy in the English Department at Mansfield High School. Kaitlyn will be a fantastic addition to our English Department and we are thrilled to have her joining our community.
Kate McCarthy - Is certainly no stranger to OAHS having served last year as a Special Education Para Professional while she completed her masters in Special Education at Bridgewater State College. Kate is a graduate of OAHS prior to attending and graduating from Stonehill with a degree in Elementary Education. Kate has teaching experience at the elementary level in Brockton and made the decision to pursue secondary special education. Kate is joining our special education department as the Secondary Language Based Special Education Teacher. This position was created to continue the program that began at the Middle School and now has a group of students transitioning to OAHS in grade 9 this year. We are ecstatic to have Kate become a teaching member of our community.
Kathleen Hayes - Is a graduate of Oliver Ames High School. She has resided in Easton all of her life. Kathy attended Eastern Nazarene College and graduated with a degree in Elementary Education. Since then she has taken various classes in visual arts and has obtained certification in Visual Arts PreK-12. Kathy is married to Andy Hayes and has two children. Andy is a National Accounts Manger for Brother International and benefits from working at home. Her son, Kyle will be a freshmen at OA this September. Her daughter, Kasey will be at the Easton Middle School in the sixth grade. Her hobbies include many church activities, event planning and plenty of traveling. Kathy looks forward to teaching at the high school level and being part of this great staff and school.
