These relationships were important to Dan and therefore we feel it is fitting that scholarships be awarded to qualifying seniors from both schools – we know Dan would have wanted it this way.
During high school, Dan was a welcome “presence” in the classroom and also had a larger, very special presence in the school community. He was very popular with his peers and respected by the faculty. He exhibited loyalty to his friends, supporting them whenever and wherever it was needed be it on the playing field, the stage, or at a Student Council function—everyone knew they could count on Dan. As a member of the varsity baseball and hockey teams Dan’s work ethic and spirit were unmatched. He demonstrated a genuine maturity in handling personal setbacks for the good of being a part of the team. Dan may not have been the best at everything he did, but he left a lasting impression with everyone who had the good fortune of sharing his company—he was the best at being good to others.
These characteristics are the foundation for awarding this scholarship(s). We are honored to do this in memory of our son and brother and we know that Dan would be thrilled to know he was helping an Oliver Ames High School graduate achieve his/her goals. (letter)

This scholarship is given by Sandy Harrington’s numerous friends and family members to honor her many years of hard work and dedication to the Easton Public School system. Having worked with elementary age students at both Center School and N.E.G. for nearly 30 years, Sandy formed many long lasting friendships and influenced the lives of many children and adults alike. She enjoyed her job tremendously right up until January, 2007 when health issues forced her to retire sooner than she had planned.
Though Sandy is and will continue to be missed by many, it is hoped that this scholarship will allow her to “pass the torch” to someone who exhibits the same strong work ethic and outgoing personality which she possessed. This scholarship will be awarded to one or more students who plan to pursue a career in elementary education or special education (at the elementary level).
Applicants should submit a letter which indicates their intended major, the reasons why they have chosen to enter the field of education, and any other personal information which may be pertinent. (letter)
