Music Department Policies

Music Home | Staff | Policies | Curriculum Info | Courses | Other Departments

The following policies reflect the goals and expectations of each music instructor, regardless of discipline.

Homework/Practice
  • Students taking band, choir or orchestra must turn in a written practice card every two weeks describing their work at home.
  • In addition, students will be assigned two Projects per year; students enrolled in a double ensemble will only be required to do two total projects, not four.

    Equipment/ Materials
  • Students must take care of and be responsible for any printed music and/or folders handed out during the year.
  • Students must take care of and be responsible for any instruments, uniforms or costumes loaned during the year.
  • The replacement of lost music, instruments or other equipment will be the financial responsibility of the student.

    Rehearsal and Concert Attendance
  • After school rehearsals are an extension of the scheduled class, and attendance is required by each ensemble member. If a student is absent from school he/she may not attend an after school or evening rehearsal.
  • Students must notify directors in advance if missing from rehearsal; please call the group director, then follow-up with a note
  • Absences from after school rehearsals may result in seniors having to take the final exam.
  • Unscheduled students must be responsible for material covered in class, and must be at after school rehearsals. If a student is negligent in this regard, he/she may be dismissed from the ensemble at the director's discretion.
  • Concerts are the culmination of work done in and outside of class, and attendance is mandatory.

    Conduct
  • Students are expected to support each other and recognize the unique differences offered within each ensemble.
  • Students must be academically eligible to participate in additional trips and/or events outside of the course requirements
  • Students are to adequately care for and put away equipment used during rehearsals
